ABOUT

When I retired in 2000, we moved to Berlin and over the years here I’ve become aware that I am surrounded by so many interesting faces in this city. So I began by doing drawings of my friends and neighbors but soon realized that there were even more interesting subjects among the people I saw on the street. Summoning up the courage to ask strangers if I might take their picture was the biggest obstacle I had to overcome, and I am still often reluctant to do that – but I do manage, and usually find willing subjects, who are also ready to share a bit about their lives.
Portraits and Passages is my vehicle for sharing the faces and stories of the people in my life.

In March of 2019, I had a crash on the site and in reconstructing the content, selected my best 55 drawings out of 120. Those images have no narratives (passages) but all newly added portraits will, once again have their stories published.

I hope you enjoy following Portraits and Passages as much as I love creating it.
