The Chemist
I met Andreas Thies when I joined our sailing club on the Wannsee lake, where he was (and still is) in charge of one of the winter storage camps. After studying chemistry in Dusseldorf, he had a scholarship at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. On a trip to the Cape Verdian Islands, he became fascinated with the sailing vessels there. Back at a university in Germany, he learned to sail and has followed that passion ever since. As a chemist, Andreas works in semiconductor research as a process engineer. His wife, Barbara, is a gynecologist and they have two children in their twenties. The Thies family is a valuable part of the WSW sailing community.
