The Eritrean
I found this man sitting on a park bench not long ago and tried to strike up a conversation. His German was nonexistent and his English not much better. I was able to determine that he came to Berlin from Eritrea and I think was applying for asylum. Was that the cause of his facial expression? Somehow I had the feeling he had carried it with him for a very long time. He let me take his photo and I must say that every drawing session, working on his portrait was a sad experience. I certainly hope he gets to stay here but I doubt if he will ever lose that look of fear.
